OTUNBA FESOGBADE OF IJEBU
Otunba Osigbuyimola Adebisi Osibogun, Economist/LAWYER and Administrator, was born on 31st December, 1932 by Chief Josiah Osisanya Osibogun and Madam Felicia Tanimowo Osibogun. Had his Elementary Education at Saviours High School, Vaughn Lane, Aroloya, Lagos and his Secondary Education at Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1951. After Secondary School, he was employed by the then Bank of British West Africa as Clerk and in July 1955 left for the United Kingdom for further Studies. Had his Advance Level Certificates at North Western Polytechnic, West Hampstead, London in 1956 and was admitted in the University of Hull, Yorkshire, England for a Course in Economics which he successfully achieved with the award of Honours Degree in Bachelor of Economics (B.Sc. (Hons) Econs) in June 1959. He thereafter also pursued a Degree Course in Law which was successfully completed and awarded an LL.B Honours Degree in June 1961.
In October 1961, he was recruited through the London Crown Agents by the Federal Civil Service Commission as an Administrative Officer Grade III and posted to the then Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He subsequently rose through the Ladder of Administrative Officer Cadre and held various Senior Grade Positions in Key Federal Ministries such as the Gazetted Import Licensing Authority of the Federation (1968-70), Deputy Permanent Secretary (1975-77), and Secretary for Communications (1977-1981); Secretary for Finance and Administration, Federal Ministry of Information, Social Development, Youth, Sports and Culture (1984-87). He was also an ex-officio Representative of the Hon. Minister of Information for launching and propagating the Doctrines and Tenets of the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) in Public and Private Establishments.
Under the Provisions of the Civil Service Reforms (Professionalization) Act of 1988, he became the first Officer to be appointed Director of the newly created Department of Business and Citizenship, Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, Abuja.
After 31 years of service as Senior Administrative Officer in the Federal Civil Service, he retired statutorily on 31st December 1992 and thus came into the Private Sector with qualitative tutelage and experience. Apart from scholarship at the University of Hull, Yorkshire, England, he also is an Alumnus of the Royal Institute of Public Administration, London; the University of Oxford (Balliol College) U.K; the Nigerian Law School, and the Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
He entered the Private sector as Principal Partner of his Consultancy Firm, Osigbuyimola Osibogun and Co, Business, Legal and Management Consultants and held Briefs for reputable Clients such as IGI (Industrial and General Insurance Co) Centre for Law and Development Studies. In the Private sector, he was appointed the first Director-General of the Institute of Directors, Nigeria (IoD) 1994-1997 which is an autonomous offshoot of Institute of Directors, London, UK.
On 16th December 2006, he was privileged and deeply honoured when His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba (DR) S.K. Adetona, CFR, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland graciously conferred on him the traditional title of Otunba Fesogbade of Ijebuland. Also in May 2009, His Royal Majesty, Oba (DR) S.K Adetona, CFR, JP appointed him the Chairman, Awujale Palace Extension Development Committee that was responsible, under the guidance of His Royal Majesty, for the construction and development of the State-of-the Art Cultural Centre officially commissioned as Oba Sikiru Adetona Golden Jubilee Centre, and now the veritable venue of the popular Annual OJUDE OBA Festival that has its origin, over a hundred years ago, when Sons and Daughters of Ijebu started paying homage to their King three days after Annual Ileya Festival.
Married with children, Otunba Osigbuyimola Adebisi Osibogun’s Hobbies include Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Football, Walking and Reading.
He is a member of the topmost Regberegbe Age-Grade in Ijebuland – Egbe Mafowoku Ijebu of which His Royal Majesty is a member and the Grand Patron. He is also a member of the Island Club, Ikorodu Club 12, the Oxford/Cambridge Club of Nigeria, the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria and the Alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, JOS.
