OTUNBA JAGUNMOLU OF IJEBU
Otunba Sir Engr. Babafemi Osoba was born on Sunday December 20, 1936 to Chief Samuel Taiwo Osoba (late Baba Ijo) and Chief Mrs Bernice Similola Osoba (Late Iya Ijo) both of Emmanuel Church Italupe, Ijebu-Ode.
Engr. Babafemi Osoba is a Civil Engineer by profession. He graduated with his first degree from the famous Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 1962 and his post-graduate degree from Queen’s University, Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1964. He holds the degrees of B.A; B.A.I (Arts and Civil Engineering) and M.Sc. (Civil Engineering). He is a Chartered Engineer, member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (MICE) and member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE)
He joined the Federal Ministry of Works as Executive Engineer in 1966 and rose to the post of Chief Executive Engineer in 1974. He worked briefly on the Construction of Second Mainland Bridge and Ijora Causeway. In 1968 he was posted to the North and was responsible for the construction of most of the major roads and bridges in the North, such as the Bauchi – Gombe – Yola Road; a road of over 500 kilometres. So also the design and construction of Dindima Bridge near Bauchi; a bridge of 120 metres continuous span with one expansion joint at the Bauchi end of the bridge.
On his return back to Lagos in 1973, he was in charge of FMW Lagos Area Office, Ijora – responsible for the maintenance of all Federal Highway Roads and Flyovers. In 1974 he was posted to the East, to design and construct all the 33 war-damaged bridges and roads including Onitsha-Ihiala-Owerri Road.
In 1975 he was compulsorily transferred as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to re-organize the entire Works Department of the Nigeria Police Force. He redesigned all the Police buildings and Barracks including Police Academy Kano and Police Force Headquarters Abuja (Louise Edet House). He retired from the Force as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in September 1996.
He is a member of National Institute of Policy and Strategy Studies, Kuru, Jos (MNI) (Course 8 1986). He was awarded a National Honour, Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) in 1998.
He is a Knight of St Christopher (KSC), a Bishop Nominee, Diocesan Board Member, and Episcopal Awardee in the Lagos and Ijebu dioceses.
He was conferred with Otunba Jagunmolu of Ijebu on Saturday 26th of January 2008 by HRM Oba Dr. S. K Adetona CFR, Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
